The Last of Us came out on HBO at the beginning of the year and quickly broke records for how many people watched it. The show’s opening was the second most-watched on the network, after Game of Thrones.
Because of how popular it was, the show was picked up for a second season just two weeks after it started. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about the next season. Well, stop looking. Here is all you need to know about season 2 of The Last of Us.
The Last of Us Season 2 Release Date
HBO has not yet announced a date for when the second season will be available. The head of drama at HBO, Francesca Orsi, did hint at a possible release date in one of her talks, saying that The Last of Us season 2 could come out in 2025.
She also talked about how the current writer’s strike might affect when the show will come out. “It’s too early to say,” she said. Writing for the show has been put on hold until the strike is over. “Right now, nothing is written down, but I’m hopeful that we can come to an agreement soon,” Orsi said.
She went on to say, “Otherwise, we’ll have to figure out what the end of the 24 schedules is and what shows will be shown in 2025.” At this point, the shows I want to air might not be ready if this strike goes on for another six to nine months. So, yes, that is a big question for us, but I think we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

No one knows yet how many shows will be in the new season. But it’s likely to be like the first one and have nine parts.
The Last of Us Season 2: Cast
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will keep playing the main characters, Joel and Ellie, on the show. Even though some characters died in the first season and won’t be back, the ones who are still alive should be back in season 2.
Gabriel Luna, who plays Tommy, and Rutina Wesley, who plays Maria, will both play their parts again. It is also said that Shannon Berry will play the part of Abby. There will also be some new characters on the show, like Dina, Jesse, Yara, Manny, and Lev. For now, we don’t know who will play these roles.
The Last of Us Season 2: Plot
The show is based on a video game that came out in 2013 with the same name. The second season will be based on what happens in the 2020 update to the game. The showrunner, Craig Mazin, said that the second season can’t tell the whole story of the movie and that it will “take more than a season to tell.”
He also talked about what would make the story “controversial.” Mazin added, “It’s a divisive story for a lot of people, but all the good ones are. There are a lot of ideas in this story about fairness is and empathy is that I would like to learn more about. So, I thought the game was very pretty and flexible.”
