Why Did Jackson Leave the Rookie? Jackson West, played by Titus Makin Jr., left The Rookie suddenly near the end of season 3. This makes it hard not to think why Titus Makin Jr. left the show. Jackson West was one of the main police officers in the first three seasons of The Rookie. He was in charge of the Mid-Wilshire Division.
But at the end of season 3 of The Rookie, he and Lopez were taken by Sandra de la Cruz’s men while Angela and Wesley were getting married. Even though this didn’t prove he was leaving the show, people started to think so when he wasn’t in any of the promotional materials for season 4.
The fact that Jackson West had died was confirmed in the first episode of season 4 of The Rookie. To prove that this was true, season 4 showed a CCTV film of Jackson being shot by Sandra de la Cruz’s men as he tried to get away. At the end of the show, there was a touching scene in which Angela Lopez honored Jackson by giving her new baby boy his name. Even though Jackson’s character gets a rewarding and emotional ending on the show, his death in Rookie season 3 is sad because he was one of the main characters since the first episode.
Why Did Jackson Leave the Rookie?
Reports from TVLine say that the creators of The Rookie ended Jackson West’s plot in season 4 because Titus Makin Jr. did not want to come back. Alexi Hawley, the showrunner for The Rookie, talked about the actor’s choice to leave the show.
She said that when they heard the news, they had to do their best to honor him because he had been an important part of the show’s storyline from the beginning. Hawley didn’t say why Titus Makin Jr. was going, but after hearing about the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Titus Makin Jr. had thought about leaving The Rookie in 2020 itself.
Makin told EW in an interview that he realized one day while watching the news that he couldn’t “go play a cop on a show and not talk about the fact that I’m a Black cop.” The fact that his character in The Rookie hadn’t talked about any of that made him think twice about taking the part. He also said that he had talked to Hawley about the same thing and told him that if he wants to write him out, he will “politely receive that.” Overall, Titus Makin Jr. would have rather been written out of the story than ignore the truth.

What Happened to Jackson West in The Rookie?
At the start of season 1, Angela Lopez, Jackson’s training officer, took over his training as a new officer. After she got a promotion, he was sent to work with Doug Stanton, a new training officer. When he was moved to Police Officer II in season 3, Jackson’s future looked bright.
Before season 4 of The Rookie started, Jackson wasn’t in most of the trailers and scenes that were released. In September 2021, during Angela and Wesley Evers’ wedding, the character was taken hostage. In the first episode of the season, he met a terrible end. He tried to fight back, but he was shot in the back and killed, but not before he scratched one of his attackers.
Sergeant Wade Grey was able to find Jackson’s killer and put him in jail thanks to the DNA on his fingers. At the end of the episode, Angela paid one of the show’s original cast members one last call at the grave of her fallen officer.
