However, the comics that go along with the show explain why Zuko’s mother went missing and where she has been.
Ursa is Zuko’s mom. She is the sister of Roku, who was the Avatar of the Fire Nation before Aang. In Avatar: The Last Airbender, it is only shown that she made a deal for Zuko’s life when his father was going to kill him. After that, Zuko’s mom was kicked out of the Fire Nation.
In the last scene of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the young Fire Prince goes to see his father in jail and asks him what happened to Zuko’s mother. Gene Luen Yang and Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, who run the Avatar: The Last Airbender TV show, have written comics that take place after Avatar Aang beats Fire Lord Ozai. These comics are called “Sequels,” and they are set in the days after Aang beats Ozai.
The Search is one of the story arcs in the Avatar: The Last Airbender books. It is about Zuko’s quest to find out what happened to his mother and maybe even get back together with her. Here’s what really happened to Zuko’s mother, why she was sent away, and where she went.
What Happened to Zuko’s Mother?
When Zuko’s mom ran away from the Fire Nation Palace, she went back to the town where she was born. There, she met a guy named Noren, who turned out to be Ikem, her first love. Ikem had asked a spirit called the Mother of Faces to change his look so he could avoid Ozai’s anger. In Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Search, Ursa decided that she would do the same thing with the Mother of Faces to start over.
But when the Mother of Faces saw how sad Ursa was, she gave her more than just a new face. She also gave her a new mind, where all of her memories of being Ozai’s wife would be gone. Ursa had to make the hard decision to forget about her children and the rest of her old life. She got a new face and a new name: Noriko. She and Noren lived together in peace for many years and had a daughter named Kiyi, who is half-sister to Zuko and Azula.

Why was Zuko’s Mother Banished?
Ursa, Zuko’s mom, was the Fire Princess for a long time and gave Prince Ozai two kids, Zuko and Azula. Lu Ten, their cousin and Uncle Iroh’s only son died in the war when the kids were still very young. The kids heard Ozai ask his father Azulon to give him Iroh’s claim to the throne instead of Iroh since Iroh had quit his job as General because he was sad. Azulon told Ozai to kill Zuko as a punishment for Ozai’s arrogance. He wanted Ozai to feel the same pain Iroh did when he lost his eldest son.
When Zuko’s mom found out about the plan, she made a deal with Ozai. She would use her knowledge of herbs to make a drug that would kill Azulon without hurting Zuko, and Ozai would take his place as Fire Lord. Ozai, Zuko’s father, agreed to the plan to kill Azulon as long as Ursa left the Fire Nation and never came back. This way, Ursa could never use the same poison on Ozai. Ozai also said that if Ursa tried to take her kids with her, he would go after them and kill them all. Ursa had to leave her children behind, which broke her heart.
Is Zuko Reunited With His Mother?
In The Search, when Zuko first meets Noren and Noriko, he doesn’t know that they are really Ikem and Ursa. After the Mother of Faces tells Zuko the truth, he goes back to the town and tells Noriko/Ursa that he is her son. Noriko then decides to get her face and memories back, and she and Zuko can finally be together again.
Azula is not so quick to forget her mother, which is a shame. At the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender, she went crazy and started to think that Ursa had been planning her downfall all along and was to blame for everything bad that had ever happened to her.
Fire Lord Zuko stops his sister, Azula, from killing their mother, Ursa, but he can’t help her as she runs away. Ursa promises Zuko at the end of “The Search” that she will tell him everything about her life, from the very beginning. The Fire Lord family still has a lot of pain to deal with, but now that their mother is back, the comics show that they will get through it.

Later in the Avatar: The Last Airbender comics, Zuko’s mom goes back to the Fire Nation Palace for the first time since she was sent away. She finally faces Ozai, who is now powerless and locked up in the dungeons. Ozai then threatens to kill everyone she loves, but Ursa sees him for what he really is: “a small, small man.” Ursa walks away from the disgraced former Fire Lord because she is no longer scared of him. She ignores him when he tells her to beg for him, which he can’t do.
