They became friends, and Cage was able to get Depp an audition for “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”
“I got the job,” Depp said. I was floored. For a week, they gave me all that money. It was luck or a mistake. I only did it to make money for rent. I was filling out job forms for any kind of job at the same time. Nic Cage told him, “You should try acting. You might be one and not know it.’ When I started acting, I thought, “This is an interesting path; maybe I should keep going down it.”
Even though both of their jobs were going well, their marriage wasn’t, and in 1985, after only a couple of years together, Depp and Allison got a divorce. They said they couldn’t work things out because they had too many differences. Allison still goes by the name Lori Depp, so the breakup must have been mostly friendly.

When Depp and Heard broke up in 2016 and claims of domestic violence were made, Allison did not stay quiet about her ex-husband. Lori fought for him along with Paradis and Ryder.
She said that Depp would never raise his hand to a woman and that he never did anything like that when they were together. He didn’t even yell at her, it seems. He is a “soft person” who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Lori says that she and Depp are still friends and talk from time to time. She even kept her ex’s last name.
Allison spoke out a lot during the Heard vs. Depp case, calling the whole thing “absolutely horrific” and criticizing Amber Heard.
