Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth are two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, thanks to their roles as Black Widow and Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, respectively. They will, however, be lending their voices to another blockbuster franchise: Transformers.
The two stars will lend their voices to Transformers One, an animated prequel picture about the origins of the fight between the Autobots and the Decepticons in their home world of Cybertron. Steven Spielberg will produce the picture, which will be directed by Josh Cooley, who previously directed Toy Story 4.
Fans of robots in disguise will have to wait a little longer to see this film, as Paramount Pictures has announced a two-month delay. Transformers One was supposed to be released in theatres on July 19, 2024, but it has now been moved back to September 13, 2024, according to Deadline.
The reason for the delay is unknown, however, it could be due to production difficulties caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, or it could be owing to the studio’s desire to avoid competition with other summer releases. In any case, it appears like Paramount believes Transformers One will be worth the wait.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which will be released next month, is not the only Transformers film in the pipeline. The live-action film, directed by Steven Caple Jr., will feature new Transformers such as Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons, as well as Optimus Prime, Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, and Peter Cullen.
Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth will work together outside of the MCU for the first time in Transformers One. The two actors have appeared in multiple Marvel films together, including The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. They will also feature in Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released on May 6, 2022.
Other voice actors in Transformers One include Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion. The film is intended to be darker and more mature than the previous films in the Transformers universe.
Transformers One will be the first animated Transformers film since 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie, which starred Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy, and Judd Nelson in the lead roles. The film is also part of Paramount’s efforts to reinvigorate the Transformers series following Michael Bay’s films’ negative reviews.
Transformers One is scheduled to be released on September 13, 2024.
