For the video game business, making games for touch screens has been a bit of a journey. It wasn’t always clear what kinds of games or control schemes made sense, and adapting existing genres has had mixed success. But adventure games were able to adapt to this brave new touch world with little to no trouble. The fact that there is almost no difference between point-and-click controls and touch-and-click controls makes them a unique choice.
Here are (in no particular order) some of the best adventure games for Android. There are updated versions of famous games, new point-and-click games that work well on Android, and a few great games that were made just for mobile.
Top 10 Android Adventure Games
The Last Express
No one would blame you if you didn’t mention The Last Express as one of the great point-and-click adventures. When it came out in 1997, it got great reviews but didn’t sell very well. Due to financial problems, the company that published it, Brderbund, didn’t do much to sell it.
Since then, The Last Express has had better times. First, it was re-released digitally in 2011, and then in 2013, it got a better port for iOS and Android. There’s even talk of a movie that Paul Verhoeven would direct. He said it was like a mix of Indiana Jones and Hitchcock, which sounds about right.
The game takes place in 1914, just a few days before World War I started. The story takes place on a train called the Orient Express, which would soon stop running. The French police are looking for your character, an American doctor because he killed an Irish cop. And that’s not all. There’s also a German businessman, a Russian nobleman, a Serbian military officer, an Austrian-Jewish violinist, and other people who represent some of the people who will be involved in the upcoming war.
It’s a great setting for a murder mystery, but that’s not the only thing that makes it interesting. The Last Express is non-linear, has more than one ending, and takes place in (compressed) real-time. When you add rotoscoping to this to give it an art nouveau look, you get a very welcome addition to that list of great point-and-click games.

Grim Fandango Remastered
Grim Fandango was never “forgotten” or thought of as “minor” like The Last Express. Back in 1998, it was hailed as another great adventure game from LucasArts, a company that almost always made great games. Grim Fandango got rid of the point-and-click style. It was in 3D, and the player moved the character with the keyboard (or a gamepad; it would have been nice to have it on platforms at the time). So that means it was a huge hit, right? Sadly, it didn’t do any better financially than The Last Express.
Even so, it’s still a very popular game, and in 2015, an updated version of Grim Fandango came out. This is important because the game takes place in the Land of the Dead, which is a mix of the afterlife of the Aztecs and a film noir. It’s another game that looks great. It got a lot of praise for the Art Deco-style characters and settings that were based on Calaca.
You play as a ticket agent at the Department of Death named Manny Calavera. Your job is to lead people to the Ninth Underworld, where they will die. You’re getting mad at your customers, but then a dame comes in. She needs your agency and the criminal underworld to keep them from making evil plans against her. If you feel like this is like a film noir, you’re right. The story and dialogue are where you can see the most influence from that style.
The Android port didn’t make any big changes, but the textures and character models are better, and they added a director’s comments, which should please most fans, both now and in the future.

80 Days
Even if you don’t play games, you may have heard of 80 Days. Notice that I didn’t say “mobile gaming” or “adventure games”; I just said “gaming” in general. It was, after all, TIME’s 2014 Game of the Year. It was also praised by the New York Times as a sign that interactive stories have come of age. What is this game, then? A “steampunk twist” on the famous story by Jules Verne. On the other hand, it’s good engaging fiction.
Your boss, Phileas Fogg, has bet that he can go around the world in 80 days. As his loyal helper, Passepartout, it’s your job to help him get through all the danger and excitement on time. The story develops through a number of choices that have different effects, so it can be played more than once. In other words, you’ll have more than one chance to enjoy the beautiful pictures and the many places and people you can meet.

The Wolf Among Us
TellTale Games has made a name for itself in the adventure game market, and they have no plans to stop. If you’ve played any of their games, you know what the gameplay is like. The story takes place in the Fables world, which is a rich and interesting place.
The main idea is that some mythical animals (fables) have escaped into our world and live in Fabletown. The player takes on the part of Bigby Wolf, also known as “The Big Bad Wolf.” As the town’s sheriff, it is his job to protect and hide the town from people who don’t belong there and to make sure the laws are followed.
The first season has five shows, and the first one can be watched for free. If your phone is old or doesn’t have a lot of power, this game might not work or might crash a lot, so you should try it out before buying it.

Detective Grimoire
Detective Grimoire might be the least serious game on this list. It’s short, there aren’t any hard tasks, and you don’t have to make decisions quickly. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. It has a polished look, a user experience that works well on mobile phones, and a quirky charm.
You play the title character, a detective whose job is to figure out who killed someone in a “tourist attraction” in the middle of a swamp. You don’t like that very much. The worst part is that your main suspect is a cryptid.
The way to play is to find hints on each screen and sometimes figure out how characters, actions, and objects are related. The same as the real thing.

Broken Age
We see the ghost of Tim Schafer again. Even though Tim Schafer is still alive and Broken Age is not very old. In his return to the adventure game genre, he didn’t want a “museum” style of gameplay, so he made a new one. The production is perfect, which is what you’d expect from a game with a big budget. Broken Age is beautiful, and hand-drawn, and all of the voices are done by well-known actors like Elijah Wood and Jack Black.
There were two parts to the game, and the time between them was much longer than anyone would have liked. Now, though, you can buy both acts together, so it’s a great time to give it a try.
You are in charge of two different people, Vella and Shay, and you can switch between them at any time. Their stories seem to be very different: Vella is going to be killed to help her town, and Shay is the only person on a spaceship. In this coming-of-age story, you help them solve their problems, which slowly brings them together.

Gemini Rue
Gemini Rue is a stark departure from Broken Age, which has a lot of expensive things. Wadjet Eye Games has its own niche, just like TellTale does. Their niche is unashamedly retro point-and-click experiences. Even though they are new, they are not as flashy as some of the other games on this list.
Gemini Rue has cute, but not amazing, pixel graphics, exciting action scenes, good voice acting (even if it’s not by well-known actors), and a story that might be more interesting than other mobile adventures, at least if you like cyberpunk. If you read the piece “The Top 10 Role-Playing Games of 2015,” you know that we do.
At first, you play as Azriel Odin, a former killer who now works for the law and is looking for his brother. Delta-Six is a later character you can control, just like Broken Age, and their paths will finally cross.

The Silent Age
The Silent Age is a game that takes place in the 1970s. It also has a science fiction theme. That’s the 1970s, not the seventies of some other century. It’s a point-and-click adventure game with stylized graphics and the best mustache on this list. It was made by the Danish independent company House on Fire.
Why is a game that takes place in the past science fiction? Yes, you can go back in time. You play as Joe, who is the perfect example of an average person. You are cleaning when you find a half-dead old man who says he is from the future and wants you to find his younger self. Soon you find out that the future of Earth is not very bright. Joe’s trip is split into two fun episodes, of which the first one is free.

Broken Sword 5
Broken Sword 5 brings back the hand-drawn graphics that were the best part of the first two Broken Sword games. Almost. It has pretty backgrounds, but it’s clear that the figures are 3D models because they look that way.
After the third and fourth installments, which were not very good, this is a very nice follow-up. It’s another point-and-click adventure, and George Stobbart looks better and better as he stumbles through another puzzle. The mystery in question is a tribute to the first two games, and the game as a whole is full of places, characters, and references that will make fans of the first two games smile. Death has something to do with a piece of art, and then you meet Nico…Those words should sound very familiar.
Broken Sword 5 doesn’t have tasks that are too hard or don’t make sense, unlike its predecessors. How the conversation is said is up to you to decide. Both episodes, as well as the other games in the series, are available on Android.

Yesterday
Yesterday is a murder-mystery adventure game made by Péndulo Studios, a small Spanish company best known for its runaway adventure game Runaway: A Road Adventure.
A string of murders of homeless people in New York is the story that a few of the characters try to solve. They hire another character named John Yesterday, whose memory has been wiped. This brings the number of playable players to three, which is a lot for a short game.
As you can probably tell by now, Yesterday is a bit of a mix of different games, books, and movies, but its lack of an original story doesn’t hold it back. Instead, it makes you feel right at home, which makes you want to explore more of the world and figure out what’s going on with all the twists and turns. Also, the fact that there is a free version doesn’t hurt.
