The Wizards’ coach, Wes Unseld Jr., was very supportive of Rui Hachimura’s decision to focus on his mental health. He wanted the Japanese people to come back as easily and quickly as possible.
Unseld Jr. came up with plays that were easier for Hachimura to learn than what he had been doing with the team before. He didn’t want the flexible forward to go back to drinking.
Before the trade deadline in February, the Los Angeles Lakers got Rui. Washington got guard Kendrick Nunn and three future second-round picks from the Lakers in exchange for him.
Even though LeBron James and Anthony Davis were on the team, the Lakers were only 22-25 when the deal was made. They came in 12th in the Western Conference, so they didn’t play the next year.

Status Report on Rui Hachimura’s Operation
Hachimura had 30 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal in a 125-150 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on December 1. This was a career-high for him.
When this unexpected turn of events happened, he had just started his new job. Hachimura wasn’t able to play in the last few games because he had a “groin injury.” A Reddit user just told me that he hurt himself by getting kicked in the testicles.
They decided that Hachimura’s balls had been kicked hard and that he needed surgery.
Issac Bonga, who is on Hachimura’s team, hit him in the private parts during a game against the Detroit Pistons two weeks ago.
After that hit, Hachimura quit the game and hasn’t played since. After that, the Wizards said he would get surgery on his “groin” and miss a few games.
