The Netflix original film Queenmaker follows the climb to power of labor rights attorney Oh Seung-sook (Moon So-ri) and political career fixer Hwang Do-hee (Kim Hee-ae) in their effort to elect Sook as mayor of Seoul.
When the lawyer attempted to sue her previous employer for wrongful termination, things got out of hand. Many people’s secrets were revealed, and their personal lives were set ablaze, but will there still be genuine competitors when the dust settles for another season of the show?
This is all we know about Queenmaker’s impending second season.
Will There Be a Second Season of Queenmaker on Netflix?
As of this writing, there has been no statement from Netflix regarding the renewal of Queenmaker for a second season.
There’s nothing unusual about this. Netflix takes one of two methods for Korean shows. They frequently release the complete series all at once, or two episodes per week. The Glory is one of the few examples of a single season being divided into several parts.
Despite this, any of these programs being renewed is extremely rare. With the exception of outliers like Squid Game and unusual cases like Love (Ft Marriage and Divorce), most K-dramas end after a single season.
This is most certainly the case with Queenmaker. It’s a dark and brooding movie that probably won’t strike a chord with audiences, so it won’t be another surprise smash. Season 1’s eleven episodes tell a very detailed story, and while there is a minor hint for a sequel at the very end, it feels more like a purposefully comical piece of ambiguity than a real attempt to push for renewal.
Queenmaker Sseason 2 Release Date
Season two of Queenmaker may be heavily influenced by how well it is received now that it has made its way to the streaming platform. Even if the show is renewed for a second season, it will take some time.
Although the political K-drama was shot between early December 2021 and late June 2022, it was not released until April 2023. The outbreak may have caused the delay, but if everything goes as planned this time, Queenmaker season two might air in the spring or summer of 2024.
Queenmaker Season 2 Cast
Should there be a second season, we would expect the following characters to return:
|Kim Hee-ae||Queenmaker Hwang Do-hee|
|Moon So-ri||Oh Seung-sook|
|Soo-young Ryu||Baek Jae-mi|
|Seo Yi-sook||Son Young-shim|
|Kim Tae-hoon||Ma Jung-Seok|

When Kyung Sook and Jae Min find that Ji Yeon has died, they are having a dispute about something or another. Jae Min is willing to hold Kyung Sook accountable, but all she has stated in response is that they should wait until they have more proof before making any definite decisions.
Do Hee, who believes Ji Yeon has been kidnapped, is currently tailing the car in which she believes she was abducted.
Ji Yeon is rescued after an all-night brawl that leaves several people injured, including Dong Joo. After regaining consciousness the next day, Ji Yeon makes a public confession about her affair, pregnancy, and Jae Min’s assassination attempt. But that’s not all.
Kyung Sook also takes use of this chance to reveal information regarding I Seul. Does Hee find it strange that on the day of I Seul’s death, all of the building’s CCTV footage had been deleted?

The CCTV footage from the opposite building revealed that Jae Min was casually leaving the building just as Seul was jumping to her death. Do Hee had realized that there was more to the story than met the eye? When Ji Yeon eventually joins them, she passes over Seul’s phone and other personal items that she had been keeping hidden all along. The final conversation between I Seul and Jae Min was recorded on that mobile cellphone.
She insisted that he apologize to her in front of the entire world, but he couldn’t. In a flash of wrath, he threw her off the building. This recording was made in the present day, and Kyung Sook broadcasts it on her YouTube site, exposing the public to the truth about Jae Min.
This is more than enough to make Kyung Sook the next mayor of Seoul. Jae Min is devastated not only by his loss, but also by the news that Carl Yoon committed suicide as a result of Carl Yoon’s bogus claims of corruption against his father. The Chairwoman has decided that she would not let Jae Min bring the family down with him, so she dispatches an assassin to assassinate him while he is drinking away his pain. Despite her best attempts, she underestimated Do Hee’s determination.
