Meryl Streep is healthy and doesn’t have any illnesses. Also, the actress never had a condition called a maternal fistula.
As was already said, the artist from New Jersey narrated a movie. The historical video was about women from Malawi and Sierra Leone who had an obstetric fistula.
Even though it’s been a few years since Meryl voiced the movie, people still wonder what made the A-lister in Hollywood get behind the awareness campaign.
Some people seem to have gotten it wrong and thought that the star had the same problem. But it’s not true. Streep doesn’t have a hole in her uterus.
According to News24, maternal fistulas are holes that form between the rectum and the vagina (rectovaginal fistulas) or between the bladder and the vagina (vesicovaginal fistulas).
The situation happens when a mother has a long, hard labor and doesn’t get the care or attention she needs.

Meryl Streep in the Movie Shout!
The triple Oscar winner talked about it in an interview. Streep called the movie “powerful” and said it shows how one woman, Ann Gloag, was able to spark change.
The star said that it shows how powerful Gloag is because it can bring together hundreds of doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, and family members to help fistula sufferers get better and get their lives back.
When Health24 asked Streep if she knew of other projects like this in Africa, she said yes. The actress said, “I can’t say much about other projects in Africa, but I’m glad I was able to talk about Gloag’s accomplishments and encourage others to follow in her footsteps.”
Meryl praised the work of African healthcare workers, telling them, “I’m always amazed by the persistence of underserved people and the dedication of healthcare workers like you on their behalf.”
Together with Ann Gloag’s Freedom From Fistula Foundation, they made the movie. The foundation helps women by giving them free maternity care to avoid fistulas and make sure they have safe births. It also trains local doctors and nurses to help them do their jobs better.
At the time, the filmmakers said that about two million African women have obstetric fistula and that more than half a million die every year while pregnant or giving birth. But 80% of these deaths could have been prevented.
The UN Population Fund says that obstetric fistula can be prevented by delaying the age of the first pregnancy, using family planning to space out births, and making sure that pregnant women have access to emergency obstetric care.
