Locate a device in Find My on iPhone
To locate a device using Find My on an iPhone, follow these steps:
- Open the “Find My” app on your iPhone.
- If you have multiple devices, tap the one you want to locate at the bottom of the screen.
- If you have Family Sharing set up, you can also choose to locate a family member’s device by tapping their name under “People.”
- Once you’ve selected the device you want to locate, you’ll see its location on a map.
- You can zoom in or out on the map to get a better idea of the device’s location.
- You can also tap the “Directions” button to get directions to the device’s location.
- If the device is nearby, you can play a sound to help you locate it. Just tap the “Play Sound” button at the bottom of the screen.
About locating a device
With Find My on your iPhone, you may track its whereabouts in real time. If the gadget is connected to the internet, you can see where it is and hear a sound to help you locate it. You can still see where the gadget is, but it won’t make any noise if it’s not online.

See the location of your device on a map
The Locate My app can show you the position of your smartphone at any given time.
Choose Devices from the menu at the screen’s bottom, then select the desired device by tapping its name.
If the gadget can be tracked, its location will show up on a map.
No location detected appears under the device’s name if it cannot be located. Choose Notify When Found under Notifications. When it has been found, you will be notified.
Play a sound on your device
Choose the desired output device by tapping Devices at the bottom of the screen and then tapping its name.

When connected to the internet: After a brief pause, a sound begins and, over the course of two minutes, the level steadily rises before finally peaking. If enabled, the device will display a “Find My” message.
A notification email is also sent to the address associated with your Apple ID.
You’ll notice “Sound Pending” if the gadget isn’t connected to the internet. The next time the smartphone connects to a cellular or Wi-Fi network, the sound will play. When your AirPods or Beats headphones are in range of your iPhone or iPad, you’ll get a notice.
Stop playing a sound on a device
If you’ve tracked down your gadget and want to silence it before it shuts off by itself, you can perform one of the following:
If you want to silence your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you may either turn it off completely or adjust the volume. The Locate My [device] notice may be dismissed with a swipe, or the device can be unlocked if it is locked. If the phone is unlocked, you may dismiss the Locate My [device] warning by touching OK.
If your Apple Watch displays a “Find My Watch” notification, you may dismiss it by using the Digital Crown or a side button.
When prompted by Locate My Mac on a Mac, choose OK.
Forget searching for your AirPods or Beats headphones; just press the Pause button in Locate My.
Get directions to a device
If you can pinpoint the position of your gadget on a map, you can receive detailed instructions to it.
Choose Devices from the menu bar’s drop-down menu, then select the desired device’s name to access its location.
