Even though it’s been more than 20 years since Elle Woods walked the halls of Harvard, her story isn’t over yet. In 2018, it was announced that Reese Witherspoon would play her famous part from the 2000s for the third time in a feel-good movie.
The director of this much-anticipated movie hasn’t been named yet, but the script was written by Mindy Kaling (known for Never Have I Ever) and Dan Goor (known for The Office), which makes us even more excited. Even though Legally Blonde 3 isn’t coming out for a while, we know that Elle Woods is the most excited about the comedy movie.
Witherspoon talked about how excited she was and compared it to Top Gun. She said, “They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgic parts they put in.
So, that gave us a lot of ideas about what we wanted to do with Elle Woods and how we wanted to make sure it had all the same things that were important back then.”

Legally Blonde 3 Release Date: Is It Confirmed?
The release date of Legally Blonde 3 is currently unknown, which is disappointing for fans. Originally slated for May 2022, the film’s release has been postponed indefinitely. Mindy Kaling explains that the delay is necessitated by the need to revise the script and ensure that the film meets the audience’s expectations.
“Trying to determine that in an honest manner is the most difficult aspect of this project,” she told TIME. “We don’t want to be the ones to ruin what is basically Reese’s Avengers franchise.”
Due to the ongoing script revisions, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact release date. Casting and editing typically require one to two years, so it is unlikely that the film will be released in theaters before 2023 or 2024.
Who is Going to Be in Legally Blonde 3?
Only Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge, who will be back as Elle Woods and Paulette, are known for sure to be in Legally Blonde 3. The following actors and actresses are likely to be back for season 3:
- Jessica Cauffiel portraying Margot
- Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods
- Emmett played by Luke Wilson
- Paulette is played by Jennifer Coolidge
- Selma Blair as Vivian
- Warner, played by Matthew Davis
- Brooke Windham, played by Ali Larter
- Margot, played by Jessica Cauffiel
What to Expect From Legally Blonde 3?
Mindy Kaling gave hints about Legally Blonde 3 during an interview with TIME. She said that the movie will show how Elle Woods deals with the problems of the 21st century. Kaling asked some interesting questions, such as, “What does Elle Woods look like at 42? Is she everything she wished she could be?”
This makes me want to find out how Elle’s personality has changed as she’s grown up. Kaling also thought about whether life has made her more cynical or angry.
She thought about how her youth, when she was bright and happy, used to push her forward. Also, MGM producer Pamela Abdy said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that the movie will focus on Elle’s life as a mother. Abdy said, “Elle is a mother and has a successful job.”
We expect to get the script in the first three months of 2022. These teasers make it sound like Elle’s trip will be interesting and show how her life and character have changed over time.
