Jeff, Stause’s husband, came into the picture much later. She even had to live in a tent for a while, which made her miss a whole year of middle school. During this time, she washed her hair in the water, ate food stamps, and didn’t tell her friends about how hard life was for her. Stause’s parents had problems with drugs and mental health, and when she was ten, the family briefly joined the Worldwide Church of God. Stause says that her mother was a free person who thought she was right, and that she never had a regular job.
