ICC World Cup 2023: After playing badly in the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is likely to be kicked off the Indian cricket team. Samson ended the ODI series with an excellent 51 in the third and final ODI. In the three T20I matches against West Indies, which India lost 2-3, he scored 12, 7, and 13.
Samson has been chosen for the three-match T20I series against Ireland that starts on Friday in Dublin. However, a report in the Times of India newspaper on Thursday said that the wicket-keeper hitter is unlikely to be chosen for the upcoming Asia Cup in 2023. If Samson doesn’t make the team for the Asia Cup 2023, he might not make the team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 either.
The Asia Cup 2023 will start on August 30 in Multan. On September 2, India will play its first match against Pakistan. “Right now, it looks like the judges will only choose the Asia Cup team. TOI said that a BCCI source said that most of the World Cup team would be chosen later. The RR captain has played in 13 ODIs and has a good average of 55.71. However, KL Rahul is set to return to the team, and Ishan Kishan was named “Player of the Series” against West Indies last month after hitting three consecutive fifties. This could mean that Samson could be left out of the team.
According to the TOI story, along with Jasprit Bumrah, another pacer, Prasidh Krishna, might also come back for the Asia Cup in 2023. He last played for India against Zimbabwe at Harare on August 20, 2022, before he was ruled out because of a stress fracture in his back.
“Prasidh can make speed and bounce, which will add a new element to our speed attack. “It would be good for the selectors to see both Bumrah and Prasidh bowl in the first T20I against Ireland on August 18 before they choose the team for the Asia Cup,” a BCCI source told TOI.

According to a story from TOI, the BCCI will choose the Team India squad on Sunday after seeing Bumrah and Krishna play at least the first T20I match against Ireland on Friday.
“Rahul is mostly healthy and taking wickets, while Shreyas Iyer, who had back surgery, is still not 100%. Both have practiced matches at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, and they will soon play a practice match. The team and NCA’s physios will also check how fit the players are who just got back from the West Indies tour. “This is why it took so long to name the team,” the TOI story said.
