Snapchat has finally listened to what Android users have been asking for by adding Dark Mode, which has been available on iOS devices for over two years? There is a catch, though.
Apple users can switch to Dark Mode whenever they want for free, but Android users have to pay for it. The company has said that only Snapchat+ subscribers can use the function. Android users are now very angry about the change, which they call unfair.
Snapchat Keeps Dark Mode Behind Paywall for Android Devices
The first time people heard that Android users would have to pay to use Dark Mode was in April of this year. Snapchat added the tool for Snapchat+ users for real in June. “Dark Mode for Android is only available to Snapchat+ subscribers at this time,” the official website says.
Android users who want to use Snapchat+ will now have to pay $3.99 per month to do so. iOS users can still switch to Dark Made without worrying about paying a membership fee.

How to Turn on Dark Mode on Android Snapchat?
Follow these steps on your Android to switch to Dark Mode on Snapchat:
- Open Snapchat and go to your Profile.
- Tap the Snapchat+ button at the top of the screen.
- To start your service, you’ll need to pay $3.99. You can also try it for free for seven days.
- After you’ve signed up for Snapchat+, go back to your Profile and click Settings again.
- Tap on the App’s Look.
- To turn it on, go to Dark Mode and slide the button to the right.
The tool is currently only available to paid users, but like My AI, it could become available to everyone in the future. At the beginning of the year, only Snapchat+ users could use the robot. In April, however, it became free for everyone.
Users of Snapchat Are Unhappy With the Paid Dark Mode
Quite a few Android users have been upset and angry that they have to pay to use Dark Mode on Snapchat. A user wrote, “Apple users have had @Snapchat Dark Mode for a while. Why do I have to pay $30 a year for Snapchat Plus if I want it as an Android user?” This is an issue with accessibility. Please do better, @snapchatsupport.”
Someone else wrote on Twitter, “@Snapchat is racist!! Making Android users sign up for dark mode against their will is theft. I don’t want ANOTHER monthly fee, and I don’t want to switch to an iPhone just for this feature, which is free in every other app. This is such a shame”
“It’s time to rant. Is Snapchat for real? First of all, we can’t turn off Snap Ai at all, which is a big no. Second, why is dark mode a part of Snapchat+? “Dark mode is a very basic feature that should be built into every app and website for accessibility!! wrote another person who was angry.
