In Manipur and J&K, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) will not be started from May 21. According to the NTA, the CUET exams will start on May 26 in J&K and on May 29 in Manipur. Candidates for CUET-UG from Manipur can still choose to move to a different place.
According to an official statement by the UGC Chairman, the candidates from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will have to retake the CUET (UG) in 2023. In response to the Public Notice dated May 19, 2023, and the Press Note dated May 19, 2023, it has been decided that the CUET (UG) – 2023 exam planned for May 21–25, 2023 in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir will not happen.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) said earlier today that a temporary CUET 2023 Exam Centre will be set up in Srinagar to help students who have been given test centres outside of Jammu and Kashmir. The move was made after many students complained on social media that they had been given a CUET Exam Centre 2023 in Punjab or a nearby state even though they had chosen Jammu and Kashmir. Students were also worried about how long it would take them to get to the centre and where they would stay. This year, Jammu and Kashmir has sent in more than 87,000 applications.
The state government of Manipur suggested that the exams be delayed because of the current conflict between ethnic groups in the northeastern state. In J&K, the NTA changed the date of the exam so that temporary testing centres could be set up in the area. This made it easier for students to take the test.
In a statement, the NTA made it clear that, in keeping with the National Education Policy 2020, the CUET-UG tests will go on as planned in the rest of the country. From May 21 to June 6, the tests will be given.
“After talking to the state administration (of Manipur), it has been suggested that all exams be held in the state of Manipur starting on May 29, 2023,” the agency said in a statement.
The NTA said that 3,697 people from Manipur chose to take the exam in their own state. “However, NTA has carefully looked at the law and order situation with the help of the state government and called these candidates to ask them where they would like to take the test. Some candidates who were not in Manipur or who wanted to take the exam in another State/City are being sent to other cities like Delhi, Guwahati, etc. “Candidates from Manipur still have the chance to change their centre,” the office said.
The NTA has asked candidates who have already gotten their admit cards for exams between May 21 and 24 and city intimation slips for exams between May 25 and 28 to contact the organization if they want to change their exam centres from Delhi, Guwahati, etc. to Imphal.

The agency said that special testing centres would be set up in the Kashmir region of Jammu and Kashmir because the number of applications from the Union territory has gone up like never before this year.
University Grants Commission (UGC) chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar, who is working with the NTA to monitor the CUET, said, “Being sensitive to the needs of candidates and to help students in Jammu and Kashmir, the NTA is looking into the possibility of setting up temporary centres in Kashmir.” So, it was agreed that the CUET (UG) will be held in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir starting on May 26, 2023.
Due to the high number of CUET applications in J&K and Jharkhand, the NTA had to scramble to set up enough testing centres. This is why the last day to sign up for the tests has been pushed back to June 6 across the country.
