In the video, Aiken references his time on American Idol, stating, “Nowadays, my life looks a lot more like yours than it does like Justin Bieber’s. Yet, one thing that has never altered for me is my affection for my home state.”
Real Estate Belongs to Clay Aiken
Clay’s first house was a Charlotte condo with four bedrooms that he purchased for $67,500. Aiken listed a home in the San Fernando valley of Los Angeles for $2.35 million in 2005.
After nearly a year, he decided to relist the home for $2.5 million, intending to make a tiny profit and move on to larger and better properties. This home has over an acre of land and 7,800 square feet of residential space. Ultimately, he sold it for $2.375 million.
In addition to a pool, a gazebo, and a sports court, the outside space features several attractions. After hearing that this home “wasn’t enough” for Aiken, many speculated that he intended to upgrade to a larger estate. He then explained that he intended to leave California and Hollywood to return to his native North Carolina.
Aiken fulfilled his pledge and purchased a property in Durham, North Carolina, in that year. This expansive residence is situated on 6.93 acres of ground with scattered trees. This property boasts modern amenities such as a home theater, a fitness center, and a bar, despite its fairly rural position.
In addition, a landscaped pond and a screened porch adorn the exterior. In 2011, Clay once again felt restless and listed this property with seven and a half bedrooms for $2.7 million. Initially, he attempted to sell it for $3.5 million.

As the years passed, Aiken was still unable to sell his mansion in Durham. He eventually agreed for $1.59 million at a steep discount and walked away from the entire situation.
Considering that he purchased the home in 2006 for $2.361 million, this indicates a significant loss of approximately $770,000. Whoever was able to obtain the 9,400-square-foot home received an incredible bargain. In 2018, Clay purchased a home in Raleigh, North Carolina for $655,000. In June 2022, he listed this residence for $980,000.
