Aquaman 2 Release Date: Aquaman 2, also called Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is coming out this year after a long wait. Soon after the first movie broke box office records, a sequel was announced, along with a spin-off that has since been canceled. Aquaman will definitely come back, though, and he will be joined by another big DC star.
Like the first movie, the second one is directed by James Wan and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also worked on the first one. Wan and Peter Safran, who is now co-head of DC Studios, have been in charge of making the movie.
We still have a while to wait, but at least there’s a lot of information to keep us busy. Here’s everything you need to know about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Aquaman 2 Release Date
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will come out in theaters in the US on December 20, 2023, and in the UK on December 26, 2023. It was supposed to happen on December 16, 2022, but the date was moved to March 17, 2023, so that VFX could be finished. Warner Bros. Discovery then moved it back to when it is now so that marketing costs for 2023 could be spread out.
From June 2021 to January 2022, the second movie was shot, and in July 2022, there were some reshoots. That gives us hope that the date of December 2023 will be met.
Where to Watch Aquaman 2?
Aquaman 2 will go straight to screens on December 20, 2023, and will hit Max (formerly HBO Max) a few months later.
What is the Plot of Aquaman 2?
It’s likely that Black Manta will want revenge for Aquaman’s wrongdoings in the first few minutes of the first movie, as well as the rest. In the first movie, we only saw how the famous villain got started. His second appearance is the perfect time to show off his full potential as Aquaman’s main enemy since there are more than 50 years of comics to draw from.
“I can tell you that [James Wan’s] concepts for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further,” teased Wilson.
“Of course, I want to know everything, but I also have great respect for him and the process to know that I’m OK staying out of it until it’s late in the game. Sometimes, there’s so much information that I don’t ask because I don’t want to know, and I don’t want him to go, ‘I can’t tell you that yet.’
“I have a few ideas of where Orm fits in, but I’m not gonna talk about them.” In August 2020, James Wan said that the tone of the new Aquaman movie would be quite different from the first one.
At a DC Fan Dome virtual panel, the director said, “I think the second one is a little bit more serious and a little bit more important to the world we live in today. I think it wants to go there.”
The official Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom synopsis from Warner Bros. says, “When an ancient power is released, Aquaman must form an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible destruction.”

Who Will Be in the Cast of Aquaman 2?
Jason Momoa will be back as Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, and Amber Heard will play Mera. Patrick Wilson says he’s back as Orm and has been “slightly briefed” on what’s next for the deposed King of Atlantis. He teases, “I can tell you that even [Wan’s] ideas for Aquaman 2 are taking it even further.”
Black Manta was set up to be the main bad guy in the second movie, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has stated that he will be back. “Black Manta will be back, and hopefully he’ll cause a lot more trouble than he did in the first one,” he teased.
Willem Dafoe, who plays Nuidius Vulko, is also back, as is Temuera Morrison, who plays Tom Curry, Nicole Kidman, who plays Atlanna, and Dolph Lundgren, who plays King Nereus. Among the new cast members are Indya Moore, who plays the DC villain Karshon, and Pilou Asbaek, who plays a mystery part.
What Happened in Aquaman?
In Aquaman, which took place sometime after 2017’s Justice League, Arthur tried to take over as King of Atlantis from his brother-turned-enemy Orm. Orm was determined to start a war between those above and below the water, so he asked Black Manta for help to cement his position as the Ocean Master above the other submarine kings. The only chance was for Arthur, who never liked taking responsibility, to make his half-brother King instead.
To do this, they had to find the lost Trident of Atlan, an old artifact that can only be used by the real king of the sea. With it, Arthur was able to turn all the forces that threatened the Overworld against Orm and get them to help him. But in a scene after the credits, a healed Black Manta vowed to get even, so we don’t think this is the end of that story.

Is There Any Aquaman 2 Trailer?
Sorry, there isn’t a video for Aquaman 2 yet. We expect one to come out in the late summer of 2023, which will give us a few months to get ready for the big movie.
We did, however, get a look behind the scenes at DC FanDome 2022. Momoa looks like he’s having a great time in most of this clip, and we can’t say we blame him!
